Dove House Hospice
Registered charity No: 509551
Dove House Hospice cares for adults in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire who have life limiting illnesses. We also provide support to their family and friends. Our services are free of charge so we rely on the generosity of the local community to allow our work to continue.
The Daisy Appeal
Registered Charity No. 1095652
The Daisy Appeal was launched in 2002 and has already reached a fundraising target of £8 million, which funded the new Hull & East Yorkshire Medical Research and Teaching centre on the Castle Hill Hospital Site.
The Appeal is now aiming to fund a fixed site PET-CT scanner and cyclotron which will be housed in a purpose built unit at a cost of £6.6 million.
The equipment uses radioactive markers that latch on to tumours, Specialists are then able to pinpoint the location of the tumours much more accurately, as a result treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be better tailored to individuals.
It is hoped the scanner will be used for cardiac and dementia and other patients in the future.
With £3.9 million still to raise, the charity is delighted to be a partner charity for the 2012 Runforall and would encourage people to take part and help raise funds
