Event Day Info
- Registration
Registration will take place in the portakabin in front of the Civic Hall. The office will be open from 8.00 am -all teams must register and collect their race numbers and relay band by 8.45 am (at the latest)!
You will have received your team registration form which must be completed and brought to registration. On this form you must provide FULL NAMES of your 6 runners, whether they are male/female and their running order. The form has already been completed with your team number, team name and the category in which your team initially entered (Open, Mixed or Female). If there has been a change in your team category please make this clear. NB. Mixed teams must include at least 3 female runners.
When you register you will be issued with your team’s running numbers. These state your team number and are lettered for each leg of the race- ‘A’ to ‘F’. Each runner must run with their number securely pinned to their front. Please supply your own safety pins!
The Relay band must be given to the ‘A’ Runners and should then be passed to each team member around the route.- The Start
Directly after registration, hand out the running numbers to all members of your team. The ‘A’ runner should then proceed to the ‘The Cuthbert Brodrick’’ side of Millennium Square where a member of staff will be holding a sign for Corporate Challenge runners (‘A’ runners must note that their start is later and separate to that of the main ½ marathon).
Remaining team runners will proceed directly to board the buses which will transport them to their respective changeover points. These buses will be parked at the upper end of Cookridge Street (near to the ‘Leeds Academy’ and ‘Walkabout’ bar) and signed ‘B’, ‘C’, through to ‘F’. Runners should board the bus which has the same letter as is on their number, for example, Number 25 B, should board bus ‘B’, Number 25 F should board bus ‘F’.
Runners should take all their personal possessions off the bus at the changeover point as they will return on a different vehicle. Items needed when you complete your leg should be given to the member of your team running the leg after you, before you get on the buses.
Due to the road closures which come into effect prior to the start of the event the buses will depart promptly at 9.00 am. Please make sure your runners are on time as buses WILL depart whether all runners are on or not.
.- 'A' First Leg Runners
The Corporate Challenge has a separate start from the Half Marathon at around 9.40 (after the Half Marathon start). Runners should stay away from the start line until they are called forward.
If any ‘A’ runner is found starting with the ½ marathon runners their team’s time will be null and void.
‘A’ Runners will be checked to ensure they have the correct number and the Relay Band prior to the start.- 'F' Last Leg Runners
The runner on the last (glory) leg MUST have the ‘F’ number on their vest. As they run up to the finish on Cookridge Street they must ensure that as they come along The Headrow, they stay on the left, and follow the coning and signs for the Half Marathon. After turning left into Cookridge Street and approaching the finish, Corporate Challenge runners must run over the finishing mat, on the left hand side, in order for their time to be counted.
The ‘F’ Runner must hand in the Relay Band to the Officials at the Corporate Challenge finish funnel.
- Post race
There are a number of bars and cafes on Millennium Square as well as in the City Centre that will be sure to welcome participants, and are often bursting with atmosphere from the event afterwards.
- Route
Here is the route for the 2012 Leeds Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge Relay. Route is subject to change.
Should it make any difference to your proposed running order please note that the 2-4 mile leg (runner ‘B’) is all uphill!
The 6-8 mile leg (runner ‘D’) has an uphill climb before the dip along the Ring Road but after this the route is reasonably flat, or downhill.
All runners must follow any instructions given by police, marshals or other race officials.
- Returning Buses
When you have completed your leg you will be directed to the buses which will bring runners back to the City Centre. Once buses are full they return runners back into the City. Due to the road closures in effect around the City, returning buses will drop runners off as close as possible to the Millennium Square area.
Please ensure you take all your personal possessions with you when you leave the bus, as well as any belongings of your team-mates that you may have been asked to look after. Lost property will be returned to the Race Admin Office on Millennium Square.- Travel
