Congratulation to all finishers – Hull 10K
15 May 2011
Today the city of Hull came alive as over 4000 people took to the streets to take part in Jane Tomlinson Hull 10K and Arena Group Junior and Mini run.
A huge thank you must go out to everyone who helped to make the event such a fantastic success. The atmosphere in the city centre was electric, with huge crowds of spectators lining the route to cheer the 4,000 participants running, jogging, wheeling and walking the 2nd Hull 10K to support scores of charities and good causes.
Among those running today was Hull City keeper Matt Duke, teams from Hull KR and Hull FC along with hundreds of children from across the city taking part in the Arena Group Junior and Mini run, including children from Sunshine House.
Congratulations must also go to the men’s winner Joshua Rowe who completed the city centre route in 34 minutes 32seconds and followed by the first female completing Elaine Storey in 39minutes 01seconds.
Joshua, 19, who lives in Leeds said: “I’m really pleased to win this as it’s only my fourth 10k. I’ve been running for a few years and now I run with the Kingston Upon Hull AC but this is the first race I’ve won. It’s such a great day – you get so much support from the locals as you’re running around the course and it really spurs you on. I’m even more pleased because my time is a personal best.”
Elaine Storey, 41 from Hull said: “I was running today in aid of the Daisy Appeal. My mum died of cancer and a colleague at work has a relative who is just recovering from it so it’s a cause close to my heart. It’s not a PB but I’m still pleased. I’m a local girl and it’s great to see so many people from Hull come out to run and support the competitors. It’s been a really fantastic day, I’m thrilled to win.”
The date has already been set for next year’s event – Sunday 3rd June. To register your place in the 2012 Olympic year visit www.runforall.com To mark the exciting sporting year ahead Run For All are offering entrants a special entry fee of £20.12 for a limited time only.
Mike Tomlinson said: “I thought that we wouldn’t be able to better the first year but we have. Congratulations to everyone who completed the run and to all the volunteers who’ve made it a special day. We look forward to the 3rd June 2012.
Like all Run For All events, entrants are encouraged to run, jog, walk or wheel the Hull 10K for whatever charity or good cause is close to their heart.
The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which supports children’s and cancer charities, has a number of partner charities for the Hull 10K: Cancer Research UK, Daisy Appeal, Dove House and the Everyman.
Those entering the Hull 10K were, however, free to raise sponsorship for any charity or good cause. Among the other charities with teams running were; Yorkshire Cancer Research, MS Society, Diabetes UK, the Smile Foundation, Leukaemia CARE, Heart Research UK, HER Breast Friends and Sports Aid.
The Run For All team would like to thank all the volunteers and event sponsors Hull City Council, Lucozade, MKM Building Supplies, Yorkshire Bank, Arena Group, Redspottedhanky and the Asda Foundation, media partners BBC Radio Humberside and Hull Daily Mail.
